There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is banned. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, features 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that features a number of amenities aside from the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
