Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino betting is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that highlights a number of conveniences aside from the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
